Are you experiencing symptoms that might be caused by anxiety, panic, or trauma?

  • Have you had difficulty falling or staying asleep?
  • Do you find yourself having “flashbacks” or nightmares about past experiences?
  • Are you feeling extra “on edge”?
  • Do you have trouble concentrating?
  • Have you noticed yourself avoiding certain “triggers” that remind you of painful or stressful experiences?
  • Do you have times when you lose it, or feel like you’re going to? Shaking, crying, and feeling faint?

Psychological trauma and anxiety occurs when we are faced with an overwhelming amount of stress that exceeds our abilities to cope. Over time, this can lead to serious, ongoing and recurring issues, in some cases stemming from wounds created by traumatic experiences. Maybe you notice yourself avoiding things that remind you of certain stressors, or turning towards alcohol or drugs as an escape from difficult emotions. You might feel disconnected in your relationships, and feel isolated and alone. It’s possible that you frequently feel “on the defensive” and ready to fight or flee at a moment’s notice.  This could be impacting your ability to sleep, to work,  to parent, or even to be fully present in the things you once enjoyed.

When we don’t feel in control of what’s happening in our lives, it’s normal for us to experience some amount of anxiety.

It’s normal to experience traumatic stress after a disturbing event. Currently the COVID-19 pandemic, violent crime, police brutality or/and civil unrest are causes. Having experienced traffic accidents, sudden loss, natural disaster, or abuse can create chronic anxiety and/or trauma. Traumatic stress can make us feel like we have lost control over our lives, and can trigger feelings of anxiety and depression. When you experience prolonged exposure to traumatic stress, such as suddenly having to adapt to working or learning from home, being unable to see loved ones, or not being able to mark certain milestones in your life (weddings, funerals, graduations…) you might start having difficulty “returning to baseline,” and getting your anxiety level back under control.

Therapy can help transform trauma and reduce or eliminate the anxiety symptoms in your life.

Our therapists are skilled at understanding the impact of traumatic experiences on you and your relationships. We are well-prepared to create a warm, comforting place for you to begin unpacking the narrative around your experiences, and can offer support, emotional space, and new behaviors for you to start transforming the anxiety and/or trauma your past or current circumstances are causing. Our therapists go at your pace and help you uncover and heal from the wounds caused by trauma.

Perhaps you still have questions about how therapy for anxiety, panic and trauma can be beneficial…

I’m interested in healing from trauma, but therapy is expensive.

Therapy is an investment in yourself, but we understand that it comes at a cost. We know that our clients’ financial situations can sometimes make access to therapy difficult, which is why we’re committed to having our therapists on plan with a variety of insurance providers. If none of our therapists are on plan with your provider, you may be able to use out of network benefits to pursue reimbursement from your insurance company. We also offer access to affordable therapy by reducing fees for our interns, assuring that you can access quality therapy at a manageable price. Cheryl, our business manager, will take the time to answer questions you may have about using insurance or out of network benefits. She uses her expertise to help our clients understand how they can afford therapy.

What if during therapy, my problem starts to feel even bigger?

You’ve probably spent a considerable amount of time and energy trying to protect yourself from feeling the pain and anxiety from past (or current) traumas. We know that it can feel scary to start addressing old wounds. It’s the thoughts, emotions, and reactions that bubble up from under the surface that you’re looking for help with, because a part of you recognizes that you aren’t okay with your current situation. We’ll help you work through what is currently troubling you, as well as what may arise during that process. We understand that there are often deeper, more hidden wounds underneath what brings our clients into therapy, and you will not face those alone. Our therapists are trained in trauma models that help structure therapy safely- our clients learn how to handle their memories, experiences and feelings a bit at a time.
